TOLEDO, Ohio – For the second night in a row Kent State found itself battling into the fifth set, but this time came out on the losing end of a 15-6 decision Saturday night at Toledo. The Golden Flashes led 2-1 but were unable to earn their second road victory of the Mid-American Conference season, as the Rockets came back for a 3-2 (17-25, 25-14, 25-23, 14-25, 6-15) victory.
After dropping the opening set, Kent State (11-10, 4-4 MAC) appeared to be in control following an 11-point set 2 victory and coming out on top of the third set, 25-23. However, the offense struggled to score points and the Flashes posted just eight kills and -.019 hitting percentage over the final two sets.
The Flashes slowed Toledo's attack for most of the night, but the Rockets found their rhythm and played with confidence in the fifth set, posting nine kills and a .421 hitting percentage to pull away.
Junior Challen Geraghty led all players with 28 digs, her 9th 20-dig performance of the season and 38th of her career. Junior Brittney Jakscht added 14 digs and tallied 37 assists for her first double-double of the season.
Junior Kelsey Bittinger led the Flashes with 15 kills and shared the team-high with 3 blocks. Junior Heather Younkin posted a kill on all 6 of her swings in the first set and finished with 11.
Kent State is back in action at the M.A.C. Center to host MAC West foes Western Michigan and Northern Illinois next weekend.
