Flashes Advance to Tournament Final After 2-1 Victory

KENT, Ohio - No. 1 Kent State successfully defended home turf in the Mid-American Conference Tournament semifinal on Friday, surviving and advancing after a 2-1 win against No. 4 Ball State.
The Golden Flashes will face No. 2 Miami, who beat No. 3 Longwood 3-2 in double overtime, on Saturday at 2 p.m. for the championship.Β It will be a rematch of last year's tournament final when Kent State won 3-2 in double overtime.
It took 14 minutes for the scoring to get started as Madison Thompson connected on a shot deflection to put the Flashes up 1-0.Β Five minutes before the half, Shannon Talbot passed the ball in from the right for Alison Harmatz to put away for her 14th goal of the season and the would-be game-winner.
Ball State's lone tally came on a penalty stroke awarded at the 65:46 mark.Β The Cardinals only had five shots Β and no corners in the game while Andrea Rinehart had two saves in net as the Flashes' defense remained sharp.
Kent State totaled 22 shots and 13 corners for an overall dominating performance.Β Krysti Lober led with seven shots while Ines Delpech had six.
