- The Kent State men's basketball team hits the road for its final two nonconference games of the season, starting Wednesday at Oregon State on ESPNU. Nonconference play concludes on Dec. 27 in Austin, Texas against the Longhorns.
- The Golden Flashes are coming off their longest homestand of the season, a four-game run in which Kent State went 3-1. On Dec. 2, Kent State defeated Grambling State, 86-57. Niagara came to the M.A.C. Center on Dec. 7 fresh off a road win over Iona, but fell to Kent State, 100-72. In the most recent victory, the Flashes defeated NJIT, 87-71. The homestand concluded on Sunday when a comeback effort against Wright State came up short, 68-63.
- This is just the second game, all-time, between Kent State and Oregon State. The game marks the first of a home and home against the Beavers.
- The lone matchup in the series took place on Dec. 29, 1997 in Hilo, Hawaii. The Beavers took the victory, 76-68. The game was part of the Hilo Holiday Shootout.
- Kent State has claimed two victories against Pac12 schools in program history, both in the 1960's, ovver Arizona State and Utah.
- Oregon State enters the game at 3-9, having most recently dropped two games over the weekend in Portland to Long Beach State and Portland. Coming off a NCAA Tournament appearance, Oregon State has picked up wins over Prairie View A&M, UTSA and Southern Oregon.
- Head coach Wayne Tinkle is in his third season in Corvallis. He took the position in 2014 after leading Montana to three NCAA Tournament appearances and seven winning records in eight seasons.
