Gymnastics Heads to Mount Pleasant Sunday to Take on the Chippewas

KENT, Ohio โ The Kent State gymnastics team heads to Mount Pleasant Mich. Sunday, Feb. 28 to take on Mid-American Conference rival, Central Michigan.ย The action is set to begin at 7 p.m. inside McGuirk Arena.
Kent State
The Golden Flashes (6-3, 4-0 MAC) are coming of an impressive performance against Bowling Green, in which they posted a season-high score of 196.125, defeating the Falcons (195.350).ย
As a team the Flashes scored a season-high on floor with a 49.250, led by sophomore Rachel Stypinski's 9.9.ย Juniors Skyelee Lamano and Jordan Hardison each scored 9.875, tying for second place.ย Samantha Gordon equaled her season-high of 9.8, finishing in a tie for fourth.
The Flashes also scored a season-high on beam, again with Stypinski scoring a 9.9.ย Milena Fabry and Ali Marreo each scored a 9.8, tying for fifth.ย Marrero also competed on bars, tying for the spot with Stypinski with a 9.875.
On vault Jordan Hardison, Kennedy Plude, Brooke Timko, and Nicolle Eastman each scored a 9.75, followed by Micheala Romito at 9.725, bringing the Flashes score to 48.725.ย
Central Michigan
The Chippewas (11-1, 3-0 MAC) enter this weekend's competition after they too posted a season-high score, defeating Western Michigan 196.125-193.750 on Feb. 21.
CMU posted team scores of 48.825 (vault), 49.025 (bars), 49.150 (beam), and 49.125 (floor).ย
Freshman Kasey Janowicz scored 39.400 in the all-around competition, taking first place.ย Janowicz scored a 9.9 on both floor and and beam, taking first on floor and tying for first on beam.ย
Also scoring a 9.9 was senior Karlee Teet, earning first place on bars. Teet also turned in a 9.8 on beam, tying for second place with sophomore Jodie Plescow and Janowicz.
The Matchup
The Chippewas own a 43-32 all-time series lead over the Golden Flashes.ย In last year's regular season contest, CMU defeated Kent State 196.400-195.325.ย
The Golden Flashes did, however, end the Chippewas run of five consecutive MAC titles, outscoring CMU 196.375-196.275 in last year's MAC Championship.ย
The Golden Flashes last traveled to Mount Pleasant on February 16, 2014, narrowly defeating the Chippewas 195.525-195.500.
