
Golden Flashes Finish Sixth at Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Kent State men's golf team finished in sixth place at the 31st annual Louisiana Classics at Oakbourne Country Club on Tuesday afternoon. The Golden Flashes carded a 54-hole score of 14-over 878 (293-282-303) and were led by sophomore Chase Johnson (Barberton, Ohio) in ninth place individually at 1-under.
No. 1 Illinois captured the team title at 15-under 849, followed by No. 45 Kansas at 14-under 850 and No. 33 Texas A&M at 11-under 853. For complete results, click here.
Johnson moved up five spots in round three, breaking into the top-10 this after shooting an even-par 72. He totaled 11 birdies for the tournament on his way to the ninth-place total of 1-under 215 (74-69-72). Four of those birdies were carded on Tuesday.
Ian Holt (Stow, Ohio) placed 32nd on the leaderboard after going 3-over today with a 75. Holt combined for a three-round total of 6-over 222 (74-73-75). He birdied the first two holes and was 2-under through five this afternoon. Holt then picked up five bogeys and a double to come in at 3-over.
Junior Josh Whalen (Napanee, Ontario) placed 39th with a three-round total of 7-over 223 (70-74-79). Freshman Gisli Sveinbergsson (Hafnarfjordur, Iceland) finished 44th with an 8-over 224 (75-68-81) and Tyler McHugh (Aurora, Ohio) carded a 12-over 228 (79-72-77).
Freshman Bjarki Petursson (Borgarnes, Iceland), who competed as an individual for the Golden Flashes, earned a three-round total of 3-over 219 (71-76-72) for 19th place. Petursson shot par this afternoon with the help of five birdies. Also competing as an individual was senior Sebastian Bendsen (Vejen, Denmark), who finished 55th with a 12-over 228 (76-70-82).
