AWENDAW, S.C. – Liam Curtis fired a 2-under-par 70 to lead Kent State to an even-par opening round at the Hootie at Bulls Bay on Sunday.
Curtis opened with a birdie on the par-5 10th, his first hole of the day, and added another at the 16th en route to a bogey-free round.
The 10th hole played friendly for the Golden Flashes, who collected four birdies as a team. The par-5 fourth was even kinder, with Kent State going 5-under on the hole, highlighted by an eagle from Darcy Hogg.
Nolan Haynes turned in an even-par round, offsetting four bogeys with four birdies. Ramiro Acevedo carded three birdies in a 1-over-par 73.
Isaiah Ibit matched Acevedo's 73, flashing six birdies on the day — the most on the team — in an aggressive round that featured plenty of birdie-making ability.
Hogg shook off a slow start on his opening nine, bogeying three of his first four holes before settling in. He played his final 14 holes at even par, including the eagle on the par-5 fourth, to finish at 3-over 75.
