Golden Flashes Complete September Schedule in Minnesota

INDEPENDENCE, Minn. – The Kent State Herb Page Men's Golf team finished in 14th place in the 2nd Swing Gopher Invitational in suburban Minneapolis on Monday afternoon.
As a team, the Golden Flashes finished 42 strokes over par through the three-round, two-day event. The first round was the toughest with a +21 final score. However, Kent State bounced back big with a +9 in round two and a +12 in the final round. KSU defeated the only other Mid-American Conference team in the event, Miami (OH), by 13 strokes in the tournament.
Nolan Haynes led the Golden Flashes with a +9 final score, placing tied for 40th out of 84 golfers in the tournament. Haynes tallied four birdies in the event, which was actually second least on the team. However, he limited the amount of holes he bogeyed and consistently made par to lead the team.
Alec Yap had a huge bounceback performance this week after going from a +22 final score in Canada last week to a +10 score in Minnesota. Yap tied Liam Curtis and Christoffer Leuenhagen for the team lead in birdies with six.
Georgia ran away with the tournament team victory with a -9 final score and three individual golfers in the top-10 of the leaderboard. Georgia's Mason Howell led the winning team with a -7 second place finish.
Oklahoma was the other team with a final team score below par. Ryder Cowan led the Sooners with a -13 result, which was good enough to give him the individual crown as well.
Rutgers, Cincinnati, and West Virginia were other top teams from Power-4 conferences. Meanwhile, Little Rock, St. Thomas (MN.), and Grand Canyon were mid-major programs that finished with top-10 team scores.
