BUFFALO, N.Y. – Kent State (6-22, 3-15) finished up the regular season with a 63-47 loss as Buffalo's (16-13, 8-10) defense proved to be a tough opponent.
The Golden Flashes were slow out of the start, taking just four shots and turning the ball over six times to find themselves down 8-3 at the 5:00 minute mark of the first quarter. But they worked their way back in it and trailed just 16-12 at the end of the opening period.
The Bulls' defense continued to be a tough opposition, as they recorded eight steals and forced 16 turnovers to lead 31-18 at halftime.
That trend continued on through the third, as Kent State found themselves down 48-26 at the end of the third.
In the 4th, Kent State found itself down by 25, forcing a timeout. Jordan then made a jump shot and made a free throw later on to try to break into the deficit. A jumper by James during the team's next possession also helped the same cause.
James followed that with a feed to McKenna Stephens to make it a twenty-point game with three minutes left.
Threes by Keziah Lewis and Alexa Golden highlighted the remaining the remaining time, but the Golden Flashes would fall at the conclusion of the finale.
Kent State committed 25 turnovers that were part of 13 steals by the Bulls. Buffalo outrebounded 43-35, including 20 on the offensive side.
Stephens led the Flashes with 12 points and added in eight rebounds. Korinek had 12 rebounds and eight points. Lurken also finished with eight points.
Kent State will be the No. 11 seed in the Mid-American Conference Tournament and play at No. 6 Eastern Michigan in a 5 p.m. game on Monday.
