Golden Flashes Defeat Cornell 196.000-193.175 on Senior Day

KENT, Ohio โ The Kent State gymnastics team defeated Cornell (10-8) 196.000-193.175, on Senior Day at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center.ย The Golden Flashes honored three seniors; Nicolle Eastman, Kayla Kosmerl, and Rebecca Osmer on Sunday, March 6th, as Kent State notched its fifth consecutive win, improving to 9-3 (6-0 MAC) on the season.ย
The Golden Flashes posted team scores of 48.850 (vault), 49.275 (bars), 48.400 (beam), 49.475 (floor), totaling 196.000, marking the third time this season the Flashes have scored a 196 or higher.ย The Golden Flashes team scores on vault, bars, and floor are all season-highs.
On vault, senior Nicolle Eastman and freshman Dara Williams each scored a 9.8, finishing in a tie for first with Malia Mackey of Cornell.ย Finishing in spots four through six, respectively, was junior Jordan Hardison (9.775), sophomore Brooke Timko (9.75), and junior Skyelee Lamano (9.725).
Golden Flashes took the top six spots on bars, leading to their season-high of 49.275, which is tied for fifth in program history.ย Sophomore Ali Marrero led the way for the Flashes on bars, taking first place with a career-high 9.925.ย Brooke Timko also scored a career-high on bars with a 9.875, taking second place.ย Lamano equaled her season-high of 9.85 to take third place, followed by sophomore Michaela Romito (9.825), senior Rebecca Osmer (9.8), and freshman Sarah Lippowitsch (9.775).ย
On beam, Marrero once again led the way for the Flashes, notching another career-high score of 9.9, tying for first place.ย Senior Nicolle Eastman and junior Milena Fabry finished in a tie for second, each scoring a 9.8.ย In fifth place was Jordan Hardison with a 9.775.
Three Flashes posted career-high scores on floor, and two tied career-highs, as the Flashes once again took the top six spots, leading to a season-high score of 49.475.ย Jordan Hardison turned in a 9.95, taking first place and tying her career-high.ย Nicolle Eastman finished out her career in the M.A.C. Center with a career-high 9.925, taking second.ย Samantha Gordon and Skyelee Lamano tied for third, each scoringย a 9.875, a personal-recordย for Gordon.ย Michaela Romito took fifth place with a career-high 9.85 and senior Kayla Kosmerl tied her career-high of 9.825, taking sixth place.
Cornell posted team scores of 48.400 (vault), 47.900 (bars), 48.275 (beam), and 48.600 (floor).
Kaitlin Green finished in a tie for first on beam with a 9.9. Lyanda Dudley was the only all-around competitor of the day, posting scores of 9.65 (vault), 9.5 (bars), 9.75 (beam), and 9.725 (floor), for a total score of 38.625.
The Golden Flashes finish-out the regular season next Sunday, March 13th when the travel to Washington D.C., for a tri-meet with George Washington and Yale.ย
