
Track and Field Readies for Jesse Owens Classic

Kent State's track and field programs travel to Columbus, Ohio this weekend to compete in the Jesse Owens Track & Field Classic hosted by the Ohio State University. The action from the Jesse Owens Memorial Track is slated to begin Friday, April 22 at 2 p.m. and continue through Saturday, April 23.

This year's Jesse Owens Classic will feature athletes from over 40 universities, representing all levels of competition. The field will consist of 20 Division I teams including 10 from the Mid-American Conference.
Last Time Out
At the Northeast Ohio Quad in Akron last weekend, the Golden Flashes brought home 10 event titles amongst competitors from Akron, Ashland, and Youngstown State.
On the oval, Morgan Manuel secured the 3,000m steeplechase title with a time of 11:43.70, while Olivia Gaus came away victorious in the 1,500m run at 4:41.04. The 4x400m relay team of Tyler Williams, Jorian Ordway, Taylor Farquhar, Olivia Gaus came in at 3:44.46, taking first place. On the men's side, the 4x100m relay team of William Barnes, Brandon Harris, Brian Smith, and Wayne Gordon captured the top spot with a time of 40.43. Gordon also came away with the 100m dash title at 10.44, as Jacob Swords took first in the 800m with a time of 1:52.07.
In the field, Jesse Oxley outdid the competition in the pole vault, posting a height of 5.22m (17' 1.75"). With a heave of 17.55m (57' 7"), Micheal King captured his second shot put title of the outdoor season. In the women's hammer throw, Gabrielle Figeuroa posted a mark of 60.26m (197' 8") to take first and move into third place in the Kent State record book. The Golden Flashes' 10th victory of the quad came in the women's discus, as Jai'Lyn Mosley finished with a mark of 50.05m (164' 2") to take first.
Last Year's Jesse Owens Classic
Kent State was well-represented in last year's Jesse Owens Classic as several Golden Flashes came away with top-10 finishes. Danniel Thomas set the Kent State outdoor shot put record on her way to a first place finish, posting a mark of 17.64m (57' 10.5").
In the men's shot put, David Paliscak placed fourth with a mark of 16.18m (53' 1"). Grant Onken set a personal-best in the 1,500m, taking fourth place with a time of 3:48.76, while Matthew Tobin finished third in the 400m dash at 47.20.
Dior Delophont and Morgan Estes each came away with second place finishes in their respected events. Delophont captured second in the high jump 1.79m (5' 10.5") and long jump 6.03m (19' 9.5"), while Estes finished with a mark of 4.05m (13' 3.5") in the pole vault to take second.
Virginia Challenge
Kent State will also be represented this weekend at the Virginia Challenge as Jacob Swords heads to Charlottesville, Va. to compete in the 800m run. Swords will compete Friday night at 9:02 p.m. in the third section of the 800m.
