KENT, Ohio – Joey Murray struck out seven batters in a row to start Wednesday night's game and went on to "K" ten in four innings, but Kent State (20-9) was unable to pull out a win, losing 5-4 to Canisius (13-15).

A full count walk after a strikeout in the 3^rd was the only blemish for Murray up to that point as he struck out the side in the first three frames. Unfortunately an hour and 13 minute lightning delay in the bottom of the 4^th ended his night prematurely in a scoreless game.

After the delay, bases were loaded then swiftly cleared with one swing of the bat as Conner Simonetti sailed a pitch over the wall in right center for a grand slam and a 4-0 lead.

However, it was the only runs the Flashes could muster in the game while the Golden Griffins answered with a three-run 5^th and then scored two unearned runs in the 7^th to take the game.

The Golden Flashes came close to a late lead and another grand slam as a ball got blasted all the way to the warning track, but the left fielder was able to get under it and snag it with his back against the wall.

Murray's final line read one hit in four scoreless innings with one walk and ten strikeouts. Zach Willeman was handed the loss as he allowed two runs, both unearned, on one hit and three walks while striking out two in 1.1 innings. Eli Martin appeared after the delay, going 1.1 innings with three runs, four hits, one walks and three strikeouts. Aaron Tadian posted a strong outing in the final 2.1 innings, giving up just one hit while striking out two.

Kent State outhit Canisius 8-7, led by Simonetti and Zarley Zalewski who had two hits each.

The Golden Flashes have one day of rest before returning to action back at Schoonover Stadium this weekend in a Mid-American Conference series against Toledo.
