
Track and Field Set for MAC Championships

Kent State's track and field programs make their way to Toledo, Ohio this weekend for the 2016 Mid-American Conference Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of Toledo. The three-day championship is slated begin Thursday, May 12 and conclude Saturday, May 14.

Flash Back to the 2015 Outdoor Championships
A total of 11 individual titles were claimed by Golden Flashes at last year's Outdoor MAC Championships hosted by Ball State, as Kent State took third place in both the men's and women's team championships.
Dior Delophont collected her third Most Valuable Performer (MVP) award in a row after claiming the long jump and triple jump titles, while adding a second place finish in the high jump and a sixth place finish in the javelin.
Danniel Thomas left Muncie with individual championships in the shot put (17.16m | 56' 3.75") and discus (58.77m |192' 9"), while Taylor Farquhar claimed her first individual MAC title, turning in a time of 58.91.
On the men's side, Wayne Gordon was named Most Outstanding Track Performer as he topped the competition in the 100m and 200m dashes with times of 10.39 and 20.96, respectively.
William Barnes tied the MAC Championship 110m hurdles record of 13.60 en route to his championship, while finishing second behind Gordon in the 200m dash at 21.05.
In the high jump, Roosevelt Dotson took the top spot, posting a mark of 2.12m (6' 11.5"). Dotson also claimed the high jump title at the Indoor MAC Indoor Championships earlier this season.
Former Golden Flashes Matthias Tayala and Miles Dunlap were the other championship winners last year, as Tayala was victorious in the hammer throw and Dunlap was victorious in the 400m hurdles.
Last Time Out
The women's outdoor pole vault school record fell this past weekend at the Campbell-Wright Open, as Sam Tollerud set a new standard with a mark of 4.22m (13' 10").
William Barnes was named MAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week after setting a personal-record and taking first place in the 200m dash with a time of 20.69. The 4x100m relay team consisting of Barnes, Jonathan Grant, Brian Smith and Wayne Gordon captured first place with a time of 40.12.
Golden Flashes took home both 800m run titles as Jacob Swords won the men's race at 1:50.99 and Taylor Wickey won the women's race at 2:13.54.
The five other event winners for the Golden Flashes were; Jackie Leppelmeier (hammer throw), Anna Lombardo (javelin), Tyler Williams (200m dash), Olivia Gaus (400m dash), Caroline Sauers (1,500m) and Jesse Slingluff (3,000m).

Following the MAC Championships, Kent State looks to send athletes to the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville, Fla. scheduled for May 26-28.
