T&F Sees 27 Named Academic All-MAC

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Kent State's track and field program saw 27 of its athletes named to the 2016 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Teams as announced by the conference on Wednesday, June 1.

A total of 196 student-athletes from around the Mid-American Conference garnered the award, including 143 women and 53 men. Kent State led all the women's programs with 19 selections, while Miami led on the men's side with 14 selections. Eight members of Kent State's men's team were named Academic All-MAC, the third most amongst men's teams in the conference.Â
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
The 27 Golden Flashes receiving the award are 19 women: Kristen Bergmeyer, Maya Brown, Ada Nicholson-Burley, Dior Delophont, Roseanne Erickson, Morgan Estes, Taylor Farquhar, Olivia Gaus, Chelsea Laury, Jackie Leppelmeier, Rebecca Leppelmeier, Anna Lombardo, Jai'Lyn Mosley, Jorian Ordway, Lauren Pannell, Caroline Sauers, Jesse Slingluff, Sam Tollerud, Taylor Wickey and eight men: Isaiah Conkle, Tyler Jones, Ryan Looser, Grant Onken, Jesse Oxley, Nick Schank, Kyle Schlumbohm and Abdul-Nasser Seidu.
As a team, the women recorded a grade point average of 3.432, with 44 students finishing with a 3.0 or higher. Roseanne Erickson, Chelsea Laury, Rebecca Leppelmeier, Anna Lombardo, Ada Nicholson-Burley, Jorian Ordway, and Sam Tollerud all recorded a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
The men's team finished with their highest in-season GPA in program history at 3.207. Tyler Jones, Jesse Oxley and Abdul Nasser-Seidu all recorded perfect 4.0's for the semester.Â
Jackie Leppelmeier (hammer throw), Jesse Oxley (pole vault), Reggie Jagers III (discus) and Donovan Tolbert (triple jump) made it out of the NCAA East Regional and will compete in the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon June 8-11.
