
Volleyball Drops Pair of Five-Setters at Dunn Hospitality Tournament

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Kent State had not played past the fourth set of a match this season prior to Saturday when the Golden Flashes suffered two 3-2 setbacks with identical 15-13 fifth-set scores. The Flashes lost to Austin Peay (25-20, 18-25, 25-22, 21-25, 13-15) in the morning and then to host Evansville (22-25, 19-25, 25-14, 25-20, 13-15) in the finale of the Dunn Hospitality Tournament.
Senior Drew Norberg was the top offensive weapon for Kent State with 30 kills and a .383 hitting percentage over the two matches. Norberg posted career-highs with 19 kills and a .500 hitting percentage against the host Purple Aces.
Junior Kelsey Bittinger also totaled 30 kills on the day and had her third double-double of the season with 13 kills and 13 digs against Austin Peay.
The offense also received solid contributions from junior Heather Younkin (21 kills) and redshirt freshman Darby Connors (19 kills), who had a career-high 16 kills against Austin Peay.
Senior Katarina Kojic handed out 104 assists to go with 20 digs. Kojic tied her career-high with six kills against Austin Peay.
Junior Challen Geraghty had a team-high 44 digs, including a season-high 29 against Evansville.
Kent State heads to the Morehead State Tournament next weekend (Sept. 16-17) to finish the non-conference schedule.
