
Soccer Visits Toledo and BG to Open Conference Play

After finishing the non-conference portion of their schedule 4-1-0, Kent State soccer begins Mid-American Conference play with visits to Toledo (5-3-0) and Bowling Green (5-3-0) this weekend. The Golden Flashes take on the Rockets from Scott Park on Friday Sept. 23 at 4 p.m. and then head to Cochrane Field on Sunday to take on Falcons at 1 p.m.

The Golden Flashes are riding a four game win-streak, having defeated Indiana State 2-1 last Friday. Kristen Brots and Jenna Hellstrom scored less than three minutes apart in the first half to give the Flashes an early lead. Hellstrom and Hayden Pascoe were credited with assists on the Brots goal and Donavan Capehart assisted on Hellstrom's goal. The Kent State defense stood strong against the Sycamores, holding them to four shots on goal in the game, all of which came in the second half.
RANKING THE FLASHES
• With a 4-1-0 record, the Golden Flashes maintain first place in the MAC East Division heading into conference play.
• With three points against the Sycamores, Hellstrom now has 81 career points moving her into first all-time in Kent State history.
• Hellstrom and Pascoe are tied for the MAC lead in assists per game at 0.4.
• As a team the Golden Flashes rank in second in the MAC in assists per game at 1.8.
• The Golden Flashes also rank second in goals allowed with six.
THE MATCHUPS
Toledo:
• The Rockets also come into Friday's match riding a four game winning streak and defeated Indiana State (3-0) in their last match.
• Kiersten Johnson scored her team-leading fourth goal of the year, while Alex Troy and Isa Echeverri each netted their first goals of the year.
• Goalie Kaite Wilson recorded her MAC leading fourth shutout of the season.
• The Rockets score an average 1.5 goals per game, while giving up 1.12 goals per game, the fourth-best mark in the MAC.
• Toledo has committed 94 fouls and been given 8 yellow cards, both of which are the most in the conference.
Bowling Green:
• As of now, the Falcons hold a record of 5-3-0 but will face-off against Ohio Friday night.
• In their last match on Sept. 16, the Falcons defeated Fort Wayne 3-0.
• Skylar Fleak and Maureen Kennedy each registered a goal and an assist in the game. Jennifer Reyes added the third goal for Bowling Green.
• The Falcons are tied for first in the MAC in shutouts with four. Lauren Cadel is credited with three and Kathleen Duwve is credited with one.
• Bowling Green has done most of their damage in the second half, scoring eight of their 11 goals in the final 45 minutes.

Following this weekend's trip to western Ohio, the Golden Flashes will play host to Northern Illinois on Sept. 30 and Western Michigan on Nov. 2.
