
First Place Flashes to Host Northern Illinois and Western Michigan

Kent State soccer (6-1-0, 2-0-0 MAC) puts their six match win streak on the line this weekend as they host Northern Illinois (3-4-2, 2-0-0 MAC) and Western Michigan (7-3-0, 1-1-0 MAC). Friday's match with the Huskies at Zoeller Field is slated to begin at 4 p.m., while Sunday's match with the Broncos will start at 1 p.m. from Zoeller Field.

The Golden Flashes got off to a 2-0 in the Mid-American Conference with wins over Toledo (2-1) and Bowling Green (1-0) last weekend. In Friday's match with the Rockets, Jenna Hellstrom scored both goals off of free kicks from outside the 18-yard box. Donavan Capehart notched her first goal of the season on Sunday against the Falcons to give the Flashes the 1-0 victory. Kent State's defense allowed just five shots on goal for the weekend with the lone goal coming in the first half of Friday's match.Â
RANKING THE GOLDEN FLASHES
• Kent State comes into this weekend leading the MAC East Division.
• The Golden Flashes are first in the MAC in goals allowed (7) and third in the MAC in goals per game (1.71).
• Jenna Hellstrom's 2.43 points per game average ranks third nationally and is tops in the MAC.
• Hellstrom is one goal and one assist away from tying the Kent State record in each category.
• Ashleah McDonald is now fifth all-time in Kent State history in victories (17) and seventh all-time in shutouts (6).

Northern Illinois:

• In last year's meeting, the Golden Flashes defeated Northern Illinois 7-3 behind Donavan Capehart's second half hat trick. Paige Culver, Jenna Hellstrom, Karli Paracca and Hayden Pascoe also got in on the scoring.Â
• Northern Illinois is off to a 2-0 start in Mid-American Conference play with wins over Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan last weekend.   Â

Western Michigan:
• Kent State leads the all-time series with Western Michigan with a record of 10-6-3.
• The Golden Flashes came out on top in last season's match, defeating the Broncos 2-1. The Golden Flashes goal scorers were Brittany Maisano and Hellstrom.
• Forward Mackenzie Barber's four goals and nine points leads the Broncos this season.
• Forward Alyssa Burke leads the MAC in assists so far this season with four.
• Goalie Stephanie Heber is tied for the MAC lead in shutouts with four.
