The Matchup
โข Kent State is 20-14 all-time against Northern Illinois
โข The Golden Flashes and Huskies battled back and forth on January 11 in the M.A.C. Center with NIU escaping with a 98-97 victory. It was the most points KSU had scored since February 2004
โข Northern Illinois was second in scoring in the nation by averaging 90.6 points per game when the teams first met; in the three games since, they are averaging 73.7 points per game
โข Since that loss, Kent State has won three-straight games
โข Prior to this season's first matchup, Kent State won the previous two meetings
โข The Golden Flashes beat the Huskies 95-85 at home in 2016 and 54-52 at home in 2015
โข Kent State has not won in DeKalb since January 2010 in a 56-54 overtime game
Three's a Charm
โข Kent State has three games in a row for the first time since January 2012
โข The team won just three games total in the 2012-13 season
โข In the last three games, Kent State has outscored its opponents by an average of 5.7 points
โข Getting to the free throw line has been key, as the Golden Flashes have made 99 trips in three games and earned 73 points. In comparison, the three opponents got to the free throw line just 42 times and made 30 foul shots
โข That averages out to 24.3 free throws made per game for the Flashes and 10.0 per game for the Bobcats, Broncos and Rockets
โข Halftime readjustments have also had a positive impact for Kent State in the last three games
โข The Golden Flashes scored just 43 and 40 points in the first two quarters, mirroring the oppositions 43 and 40
โข In the 3rd and 4th quarters, Kent State scored 66 and 60 points, respectively, while holding opponents to 52 and 57
