AUSTIN, Tex. – Kent State shot rounds of 296 and 295 on Monday to finish day one of the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in seventh place at 15-over par.Â
The Golden Flashes arrived in Austin as the tournament's two-time defending champion. Host Texas staked an early claim to end KSU's run of victory's at the University of Texas Golf Club, surging to an 8-under-total after two rounds to take a commanding 13-shot lead over Arizona State.
Michaela Finn, who placed second individually in last year's event, led the Kent State lineup with rounds of 73 and 71 on the 6,491-yard, par-72 course. Her one-under-par total put her in a five-way tie for sixth place, six shots behind overnight leader Alice Hewson of Clemson.
Pimnipa Panthong (72-75–147) finished day one in 25th place at 3-over-par, with teammates Marissa Kirkwood (74-76–150) in 42nd, Kory Nielsen (79-74–153) in 59th, and Karoline Stormo (77-78–155) in 67th.

The 15 teams return for an 8:30 a.m. CDTÂ shotgun start to Tuesday's final round.
