Four high school seniors recently signed National Letters of Intent to join Kent State's wrestling team for the 2018-19 season. The early signing period class includes Caleb Brooks (Circleville, Ohio), Brady Chrisman (Medina, Ohio), Tim Wallace (Uniontown, Pa.) and Stone Day (Germantown, Ohio).
"This a good, solid, hard-working group and a solid investment in the future of Kent State wrestling," said Associate Head Coach Matt Hill.
Brooks is a three-time state place winner in Ohio, expected to compete at 133 or 141 for the Golden Flashes. Last March, he finished third in Division II state tournament for Circleville High School, while competing at 120 pounds. As a sophomore Brooks was a Dispatch All-Metro First Team selection.
"Caleb is tall, fast and scrappy," Hill said. "He'll be looking to win a state title this year."
Chrisman placed fifth at the state championships this past season for Medina High School. He is expected to compete at 165 for the Flashes. In February, Chrisman won a 152-pound title at the Greater Cleveland Conference Tournament. He is a three-time place winner at NHSCA Nationals.
"Brady's a very smart wrestler and smart academically too," Hill said. "He has a huge upside. Every coach in the area has told us we have a really good one in Brady. I saw him wrestle at Super 32. His only losses were to Top 10 guys and he wrestled both of them really well."
Wallace is the lone Pennsylvania native in the group, coming from Albert Gallatin High School. He placed third at the PIAA state championships in March and enters his senior year with 102 career victories. Ranked No.11 in the nation by FloWrestling at 182, Wallace is expected to compete at 184.
"Tim is a typical scrappy Pennsylvania guy," Hill said. "He's talented on his feet with a variety of attacks and he's tough on top."
Day, of Valley View High School, finished his junior season as a state runner-up with a 45-2 record. In 2016, he placed fifth at the state tournament. Day is expected to compete at 197 for the Flashes. He has also been a key contributor to Valley View's football team.
"Stone's a brutal, strong and physical wrestler that reminds me a little of Dustin Kilgore when he came out of high school with his attacks," Hill said.
Kent State (5-0) returns to action Saturday at the Navy Classic.
