One day after Sean Lewis was named head coach, the Kent State football program hit the ground running Friday, signing linebacker Ishmael Robinson (Washington, D.C.) to a national letter of intent.
At 6-2, 215 pounds, Robinson becomes the Golden Flashes' third signee for the 2018 season and first on the defensive side of the ball.Â
"Ishmael is a dynamic player that will fit perfectly into our defensive structure," Lewis said. "He has the ability to play in space when asked to cover, along with the physical toughness and quick twitch to rush the passer."
Scout.com recently rated Robinson No. 14 among 2018 recruits from the Washington, D.C. area. Â He helped H.D. Woodson High School to a DCSAA Championship Game appearance in 2016.
Robinson joins wide receiver Javaughn Williams (Cleveland, Ohio) and running back Craig Elmore (Chicago, Ill.) in the early signing period.Â
The Golden Flashes will add to its incoming class on Feb. 7, during the NCAA's second signing period.
Kent State's 2018 season opens on Sept. 1, at Illinois.
