
No. 15 Women's Golf In Third At Lady Puerto Rico Classic

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – The No. 15 Kent State University women's golf team is in the mix at the top after round one at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic at the Rio Mar Country Club River Course.
The Golden Flashes got off to a strong start to the three-day tournament, finishing the first 18 holes in third place at 5-over par 293. Kent State is a stroke behind Texas Tech and three strokes behind the leaders, No. 8 Furman.
The entire team had a strong showing Sunday, especially in the 3-5 spots of the lineup. Marissa Kirkwood returned to the lineup and leads Kent State alongside senior Wad Phaewchimplee. The duo each shot an even par 72 to tie for eighth overall. Phaewchimplee registered her fourth straight round of par or better this spring, while Kirkwood was two strokes off her career-best round.
One stroke back in a tie for 17th place is Karoline Stormo at 1-over par 73. Stormo registered a team-best five birdies Sunday. Pimnipa Panthong finished round one at 4-over par 76 and sits in a tie for 35th place. Rounding out the squad is nationally ranked sophomore Michaela Finn. Finn shot five-over par 77 and is tied for 46th.
