Flash Facts |
-Â Â Â Â The Kent State men's basketball team will look to make it four in a row in the win column when it returns to the M.A.C. Center Saturday to face the Ohio Bobcats.
-Â Â Â Â Kent State's recent run started with a win over Miami at home on Valentine's Day. The Golden Flashes went on to snap Akron's 30-game home winning streak with a 70-67 win, and snapped Buffalo's six-game winning streak with a 77-69 road victory.Â
-Â Â Â Â The recent streak has lifted the Flashes from the 11th seed in the Mid-American Conference to the sixth seed. The MAC Tournament field is far from set for Kent State or any team in the league. Kent State is in range of finishing in the top-four, giving the team a bye in the first round, but could slip down to as low as 10th, putting the team in a road game in the first round.Â
-Â Â Â Â Currently, Kent State is tied with Western Michigan, a game behind Ball State and Buffalo, and a game ahead of Toledo and Northern Illinois.
-Â Â Â Â In order to avoid a slip, Kent State will have to pick up wins despite a tough schedule ahead. After the Flashes host Ohio, they will travel to Bowling Green on Tuesday and then host the first-place Akron Zips on senior day March 3.Â
-Â Â Â Â This is the 143rd matchup in the all-time series against Ohio. Kent State has 48 wins against the Bobcats, over half of which have come since 1999.Â
-Â Â Â Â Kent State has had Ohio's number in recent years, winning four of the last six matchups. Last year, the season series was split 1-1, with each team winning its home game. Ohio won the first matchup this season in Athens, 85-67.
-Â Â Â Â At 10-5, Ohio is still in the running for the top seed in the MAC Tournament. After losing former MAC Player of the Year Campbell for the year, the team went 3-4. However, they have won four straight since.Â
-Â Â Â Â Saul Phillips is in his third year at Ohio, and previously coached at North Dakota State.
