
No. 10 Women's Golf In Contention at The Dickson

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The No. 10 Kent State women's golf team finished the first two rounds of The Dickson, hosted by Houston at the par 72 Tournament Course at The Woodlands Country Club, in third place overall at 1-under par 575.
Kent State came out hot Monday with a 4-under par 284 in the opening round, and followed with a 291 in the second. The Golden Flashes are leading six teams currently ranked in the national top-50. While No. 3 Florida State has built a 15 stroke lead on the field, Kent State is six strokes behind second place SMU.
The Flashes were led by current MAC Golfer of the Week Wad Phaewchimplee, who is currently tied for third overall at 6-under par 138. She started the tournament under par at 71 in round one, but had the best round on her team in the second at 5-under par 67. It is her second 67 of the season and the fourth round of her career of 67 or better. She registered a total of nine birdies on the day.
One stroke behind Phaewchimplee in fifth place is freshman Pimnipa Panthong. Panthong is 5-under par after two rounds, with a consistent showing of 69 in the first round and 70 in the second. She had only one bogey in each round.
Two Flashes are currently in a tie for 47th at 5-over par 149 in Michaela Finn and Karoline Stormo. Finn shot 2-under par 70 in the first round and a 79 in round two. Stormo carded a 74 in the opening round, followed by a 75. Marissa Kirkwood is fifth among Flashes in 84th overall at 162. She registered an 82 in round one and an 80 in round two.
