Kent State went 3-2 on two weekends ago at the EMU Madeira Beach Spring Invitational. After losing to Army West Point and Albany on the opening day of the tournament, the Golden Flashes defeated Columbia, Stony Brook and Manhattan by a combined score of 19-7. Murray State avenged the loss by beating the Flashes in five innings, 10-0, in the tournament finale on Sunday.
While Kent State batted just .249 as a team, patience at the plate resulted in 25 walks drawn and a .340 on-base percentage.
Sophomore Bailey Brownfield was named MAC East Player of the Week after hitting .636 with four doubles, three RBIs and five walks. Brownfield has reached base in all 14 games this season and collected a hit in 12 games. Sophomore Jen Cader led the team with five RBIs, as she hit .556 with a pair of doubles. Senior Maddy Grimm, junior Vanessa Scoarste, and Holly Speers had four hits apiece.
On Deck for the Flashes
For the second time in the last three seasons, Kent State will head to Ann Arbor for a three-game series against No. 15 Michigan in the final weekend prior to the beginning of Mid-American Conference play.
