Kent State begins the second half of the Mid-American Conference schedule with a crucial three-game series this weekend at the Diamond at Dix. Du to Saturday's weather forecast, the teams will now play a doubleheader on Friday at 2 p.m. with the final game of the series slated for 1 p.m. on Saturday. Jacob Pavilack will have the call on Golden Flashes iHeart Radio.
The Golden Flashes (16-21, 6-6 MAC) are currently tied with Bowling Green for third place in the MAC East Division standings and just a game behind the RedHawks and Ohio. Kent State earned a crucial victory over the Bobcats on Wednesday, 1-0 in 11 innings, to take the season series.
Last Time Out
Sophomore Bailey Brownfield hit her first home run of the season in the 11th inning as Kent State left Ohio Softball Field with 1-0 win over the host Bobcats on Wednesday. The Golden Flashes improved to 2-4 in games that have gone to extra innings this season with both wins coming in the past week.
Senior Ronnie Ladines matched her career-high with 11 strikeouts while throwing a career-high 11 innings to record her first shutout of the season. Ladines held the Bobcats to seven hits and allowed just two walks to the 43 batters she faced.
Brownfield, who was one of two Flashes with two hits in the game, delivered her third game-winning hit in the past 11 days. She hit a double to bring in two runs in the sixth inning of Kent State's 3-2 win at Central Michigan on April 1 and gave the Flashes a walk-off win with a two-out double last Saturday against Northern Illinois.
Sophomore Jen Cader joined Brownfield with two hits, and junior Emily Dobbin and senior Maddy Grimm collected one hit apiece.
Ladines and battery mate senior Nicole Teefy combined to make the play of the game for the Flashes, throwing out an Ohio runner at the plate after a pitch sailed to the backstop to end the 10th inning.Â
