CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced its Distinguished Scholar Athletes from eight winter sports during the 2016-17 academic year Thursday, including 25 student-athletes from Kent State. With representation from five different sports, the Golden Flashes ranked second to only Eastern Michigan for most honorees in the conference.
The MAC's 208 Distinguished Scholar Athletes were voted upon by faculty athletic representatives, choosing from each sports' Academic All-MAC Teams. Kent State's 25 selections marks an institution best for the winter, topping last year's total of 21.
The number of Distinguished Scholar Athletes from each sport were equivalent to the number of all-conference first-team selections or 33% of nominees, whichever was greater.
Later this spring, the MAC will announce the Distinguished Scholar Athletes from the eight spring sports sponsored by the Conference.
