YPSILANTI, Mich. – Kent State (31-13, 15-3) completed the Sunday sweep of Eastern Michigan (18-30, 9-9) by taking the finale 2-0.
"It was a good weekend for us," said Head Coach Jeff Duncan. "Eastern Michigan has been playing pretty well. Coming in here, we knew it was going to be a tough challenge. I thought we played really good baseball in all facets, for the most part."
Pitching continued to be prime as Joey Murray went 6.2 innings in the start with five hits, one walk and seven strikeouts, improving to 6-0 on the season. Patrick Dayton was outstanding in the final 2.1 frames. He did not allow a hit or walk while striking out four, including a three-pitch "K" when he entered the game.
The only runs of the game came in the second inning. Reilly Hawkins led off with a double to right field. Nick Kanavas then singled to put runners on the corners. Later on, Pete Schuler picked up an RBI with a single to left center before John Matthews executed a successful squeeze bunt to score the runner at third.
Tim DalPorto had yet another impressive day at the plate as he went 2-for-4. Schuler finished 2-for-3.
The Golden Flashes will have the week off from competition as they focus on finals. Action will return at Schoonover Stadium for the final weekend home series as Miami comes to town for three games on Friday, May 12.
