
Three Flashes Shoot Low Rounds at Opening Round of Bank of Tennessee

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn.- The Kent State University men's golf team sit in second place after an opening round score of 12-under par 276 with the help of low scores from three members at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate on Friday.
Three Flashes led the charge after carding below-par scores in the 60's. Senior Bjarki Petursson, who is tied for third, opened the tournament with a career-best 6-under 66 score after going 17 holes for par or less. Petursson led the team firing seven birdies, two of which were back-to-back on two separate occasions.
Freshman Johnny Travale shot a career-low score of 5-under par 67 and is tied for seventh. He played a bogey-free round of golf and finished the day with five birdies. Travale's game caught fire on the back nine when he birdied on holes 14-16 and his final hole. Also finishing in the 60's was sophomore Will Kurtz who carded a 5-under 67 score. Kurtz went 17 holes for par or less after he shot four birdies on the front-nine. He ended the day with six total.
Senior Gisli Sveinbergsson finished the day with a 4-over 76 score alongside teammate sophomore Josh Gilkison, who carded a 4-over 76 score on the day.
Chris Doody, who is competing at an individual is tied for 51st after he shot a 2-over par 74 score.
Kent State trails tournament leader East Tennessee State by six shots, while Louisville and Tennessee are tied for third place at 11-under, and Missouri rounds out the top-5 spot with a 7-under par score.
