Flashes Four-Game Win Streak Snapped by Falcons

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Kent State (8-6-1, 4-3-0 MAC) soccer team fell to first place Bowling Green (9-3-2, 7-0-0 MAC), 3-1, on Friday at Cochrane Stadium. The Golden Flashes saw their four-match win streak snapped, while the Falcons extended their league-high win streak to eight.
The Falcons connected just three minutes into the contest as Chelsea Washington scored her first of two goals of the night to put the Falcons in front. Nikki Cox scored in the 26th minutes and Washington scored her second in the 69th minute to give Bowling Green complete control of the match.
Senior defender Paige Culver scored Kent State's long goal in the 83rd minute on a free kick for her first goal since 2016.
The Golden Flashes did have an advantage in shots (18-12), shots on goal (8-5) and corner kicks (2-1), but Bowling Green led in saves (7-2).
Bowling Green goalkeeper Kathleen Duwve (9-3-2) made seven saves on eight shots on goal, while Kent State redshirt freshman Faith O'Neill (6-5-1) made two saves on five shots. Sophomore Vital Kats led Kent State with five shots. Freshman Kendra Kline made her first career start as a defender.
The Golden Flashes continue their road trip on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m. at Toledo.
