Flashes Secure Five Seed in MAC Tournament With Win
Kent State (10-7-2, 6-4-1 MAC) defeated Ohio (8-7-3, 6-3-2 MAC) 1-0 on the road to wrap up regular season play. Maddie Holmes scored her sixth goal of the season in the 48th minute to clinch the victory for the Flashes and secure the fifth seed in the Mid-American Conference tournament this weekend.
Early in the second half, the Golden Flashes attempted one of their 10 free kicks. After a scrum in front of the net, Maddie Holmes banged home one of her team-high three shots to give Kent State the advantage.
The one goal was all that was needed with freshman goalkeeper Faith O'Neill recording her sixth shutout of the season to help lift the Flashes to a victory.
The defense continued to dominate, not allowing a goal for the third time in the last four games.
Kent State outshot the Bobcats 12-11 and held a 10-1 advantage on corner kicks.
The Golden Flashes will head back to Ohio on Sunday to take on the Bobcats at 1 p.m. in the MAC tournament. If the Flashes win, they will play the winner of Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan.
