
Finn and Stormo Named Co-Champions at Illini Invitational

MEDINAH, Ill.- Senior Michaela Finn and Junior Karoline Stormo were named co-champions of the Illini Women's Invitational with a 9-under 207 score for their first tournament win of the season.
Kent State finished in the top-3 for the third-straight time this season after a second place finish at 23-under par 841 (277-286-278), four shots shy of tournament winner Purdue (278-279-280). Tournament host Illinois took third at 19-under 845 (285-286-278), followed by Miami (-18) and San Jose (-4) rounding out the top-5 standing.
After record-setting performances on the first day, Finn and Stormo continued their efforts for the Flashes on the final day. Finn ended the final round with a 1-under 71 score with three birdies, totaling 15 over 54 holes. Stormo shot a 4-under par 68 score and went 16 holes for par or less. The Junior started the day with two-consecutive birdies and birdied her last two holes, which gave her a seven-day total. Finn and Stormo shot a combined 19 birdies for the tournament.
Sophomore Kory Nielsen and Pimnipa Panthong tied for 20th with a 1-under par 215 score. Nielsen had her best round of the tournament and carded a 2-under par 70 score. She went 17 holes for par or less and shot four birdies on the day, and led the tournament with 40 total pars. Panthong also shot her lowest round of the tournament in the final round with a 3-under par 69 score. The junior went 17 holes for par or less with four birdies on the day, two of which were back-to-back on holes 12 and 13.
Rounding out the Flashes' line up was junior Marissa Kirkwood at 5-over 221, tied for 50th. Kirkwood fired a 3-over 75 score in the final round.
Sophomore Chloe Salort tied for 20th with a 1-under par 215 score. She carded a final round 4-under score. Junior Julia Goodson fired a 3-over 75 score and tied for 57th at 7-over 223. Freshman Thitapa Pakdeesettak rounded out the Flashes' individual competitors and carded a third round score of 2-under. She tied for 66th with an 8-over par 224 score.
Kent State is back in action Oct. 19-21 as the Flashes compete in the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas.
