Kent State senior linebacker Matt Bahr (Kenton, Ohio) was recently named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District 5 Team. Selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, the distinction recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. With his honor, Bahr earned spot on the Academic All-America ballot.
Bahr is one of four Kent State captains and earned a single-digit number in the spring.  He ranks second on the team with 80 tackles and leads the Flashes with 6.0 tackles for loss. Bahr also has a forced fumble and a pair of sacks.
In his fifth year with the football program, Bahr earned his undergraduate degree in three years with a 3.89 grade point average and will earn a master's degree in December. He currently carries a 4.0 in graduate school. Last spring, he was awarded a postgraduate scholarship by the Northeastern Ohio Chapter of the National Football Foundation and spoke on behalf of all Postgraduate Award winners at its awards banquet. Bahr is a two-time MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete and Academic All-MAC selection.
Bahr was also semifinalist for the 2018 William V. Campbell Trophy, recognizing an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation. Â He is currently one of 12 semifinalists for the Wuerffel Trophy, the nation's top award for community service.
The Golden Flashes close out their 2018 season on Friday, Nov. 23, hosting Eastern Michigan.
