Kent State sophomore 184-pounder Andrew McNally (Uniontown, Ohio) earned his second Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week honor on Thursday. McNally won his second tournament title of the season this past Saturday at the Cleveland State Open.
In his opening bout at Woodling Gym, McNally pinned Bucknell's Jacob Ferreira in 1:07. He followed that with a dominant 9-1 major decision of Buffalo's Peter Acciardi. In the semifinals, McNally blanked Indiana's Norman Conley 4-0. He completed his 4-0 day by topping Northwestern's Jack Jessen 5-1 in the championship round, allowing only two points over four matches.
McNally continued to roll Tuesday night with a first period pin of Edinboro's Zach Ancewicz. The Golden Flashes went on to defeat the Fighting Scots 26-12 at McComb Fieldhouse.
On the season, McNally leads the team in wins (19) and bonus-point victories (15). With nine pins, he is on pace to crack Kent State's top five for most falls in a season.
The Flashes will compete in four duals over two days at the South Beach Duals in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Kent State will take on Missouri and SIU Edwardsville on Dec. 29 and Minnesota and Michigan State on Dec. 30.
