ST. GEORGE, Utah - Sophomore Pimnipa Panthong (Nakhon Sawon, Thailand) earned medalist honors at the BYU at Entrada Classic, while No. 18 Kent State finished second in the team standings Tuesday at Entrada at Snow Canyon. Panthong's round three 70 put her at 8-under for the tournament, two strokes ahead of BYU's Kendra Dalton.
The host Cougars moved from 4-over to even par in their final two holes with birdies from different players. The Golden Flashes also finished strong with three birdies on their final two holes, coming up just two strokes off the lead at 2-over (866) for the tournament. Tuesday was a two-team race throughout the day as Texas Tech finished 12 strokes behind the Flashes in third place.
Panthong birdied her first hole of the day and never lost her lead. Her only bogey came on hole 13.
The Flashes had two top five finishes as sophomore Karoline Stormo (Tvedestrand, Norway) carded an even 216 for the tournament. Stormo birdied two of her first four holes Tuesday on the way to a 72.
Stormo and Panthong now both have a pair of top five finishes and an individual title in two seasons at the BYU at Entrada Classic. The sophomore duo both had success on par five holes as Panthong carried the second best score at 5-under and Stormo tied for third at 4-under. As a team Kent State ranked second on par fives at 8-under.
A par five hole helped freshman Kory Nielsen (Kent, Ohio) close out her day with back-to-back birdies. Nielsen was one of four Flashes to finish in the top 20 spots at 7-over.
Junior Michaela Finn (Angelholm, Sweden) also finished in the top 20, following an even 72 on Tuesday. Finn's three birdies in round three placed her alone in 17th at 5-over.
Freshman Chloe Salort (Ermont, France) tied for 43rd place at 15-over.
Kent State returns to action March 26-27 at the Henssler Financial Intercollegiate in Kennesaw, Georgia.
