KENT, Ohio- The No. 16 Kent State women's golf team will begin its quest for a 20th-straight Mid-American Conference Championship this weekend at the 2018 MAC Women's Golf Championship, hosted by Northern Illinois. The event will take place at the par 72, 6,092-yard Naperville Country Club in Naperville, Ill.
The championship features 54 holes of competition with 18 holes played each day. Teams will tee off each day on the first and 10th holes beginning at 8 a.m.
There are few teams that can boast the consistent success of what the Kent State women's golf team has done, as the team has shown success since its creation. The Flashes have won 19 consecutive MAC championships — every one since women's golf was introduced into the Mid- American Conference. The Flashes will look to continue their reign as the most dominant program in the MAC as they shoot for their 20th-straight MAC Championship, the longest streak ever for any sport. This year's team has been ranked in the national top-20 all spring and have eyes set on a long postseason run.
Winning a 20th-straight title will be no easy feat. Toledo comes in as the second-highest nationally ranked team in the MAC, followed in order by host Northern Illinois, Akron, Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Bowling Green, Western Michigan, and Ohio.
Kent State will bring fresh faces to the MAC Championship, with a lineup made up of two freshmen, two sophomores, and a junior. Competing this weekend for the Flashes will be freshmen Kory Nielsen (Kent, Ohio) and Chloe Salort (Ermont, France), sophomores Pimnipa Panthong (Nakhon Sawan, Thailand), Karoline Stormo (Tvedestrand, Norway), and junior Michaela Finn (Ängelholm, Sweden).
Despite a youthful roster, Kent State rolls into the MAC Championship following six top-3 finishes, including two wins at the Mid-American Match Play Challenge and Henssler Financial Intercollegiate. The Flashes most recently placed second at the Lady Buckeye Invitational.
