
Flashes Finish Fifth at Kepler Intercollegiate

COLUMBUS, Ohio- The No. 25 Kent State men's golf team finished the regular season Sunday with a fifth-place showing at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate at Ohio State's Scarlett Course.
The Golden Flashes finished the tournament at 21-over par 873 (285-293-295). The Flashes hung tough with the top-20 ranked Illinois, who placed second in the tournament, and No.40 ranked Purdue who won the tournament at 3-under 849.
Senior Ian Holt (Stow, Ohio) led the squad after finishing fourth at 1-under par 212 for the tournament. Holt carded an even par in the final round of golf played and birdied twice. The senior finished the tournament with 9 birdies and led the team in par-3 scoring at 1-under.
Junior Gisli Sveinbergsson (Hafnarfjordur, Iceland) tied for 17th after carding a 5-over 76 third round score. The junior finished the tournament at 5-over 218. Freshman Josh Gilkison (Springboro, Ohio) tied for 23rd at 7-over 220 for the tournament. Gilkison carded a 73 (+2) for his third round and birdied four times for the final round, two of which were back-to-back on holes five and six. The freshman also led the team with nine birdies for the tournament.
Junior Bjarki Petursson (Borgarnes, Iceland) finished in a tie for 35th carding a 223 (+10) score for the tournament. Petursson finished the third round at 4-over par 75 with two birdies. Rounding out the Flashes' lineup was senior Chase Johnson (Barberton, Ohio) who tied for 50th at 13-over 226. Johnson finished the day with a 77 (+6) score.
Kent State will defend its title at the MAC Championship, beginning April 27-29 at the Sycamore Hills Golf Course in Fort Wayne, Ind.
