
Figueroa Breaks Hammer Throw Record Friday at Northeast Ohio Quad

AKRON, Ohio — Kent State senior Gabrielle Figueroa unleashed a heave of 203'-5" to win the hammer throw and set a new school record on Friday's opening day of the Northeast Ohio Quad.
Figueroa topped her previous personal-best by five feet and takes over the top spot in the Golden Flashes' record from Jackie Leppelmeier, who had a throw of 201'-8" in 2015.
Freshman Jake Wickey took second in the men's competition with a distance of 186'-5". Kent State took second and third in the men's shot put. Senior David Paliscak placed second with a top throw of 53'-5.5" and redshirt Walter Petzel threw 52'-1.75" for third.
Kent State concludes action at the Northeast Ohio Quad on Saturday. Action gets started at 11 a.m. with the men's javelin. Running events begin at 1 p.m. with competition split between Lee R. Jackson Track and Field Complex and the Stile Athletics Field House. A video stream of the indoor running events will be available at GoZips.com.
