
Duo of Flashes Named WGCA All-American Scholar

KENT, Ohio- Two Kent State women's golfers were named to the 2017-18 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-America Scholar Team, it was announced by the organization on July 3. Freshman Kory Nielsen and sophomore Karoline Stormo both earned the honor. It marks the second consecutive year Stormo has been named to the WGCA All-America Scholar Team.
The criteria for the selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50. A total of 1,011 women's collegiate golfers were recognized this year with this prestigious honor.
Both academic standouts represented Kent State this past season at the NCAA National Championship, where the team finished tied for fifth in the quarterfinals.
Nielsen finished her freshman season with a 74.79 scoring average during 34 rounds of golf, including a low round of 69. Named to the All-MAC Second Team, Nielsen posted eight rounds of par or better throughout the season.
Stormo ended the 2017-18 season with a 74.13 scoring average. The sophomore had five top-10 finishes including a career-low round of 67. Stormo was named to the All-MAC first team and All-MAC Tournament team completed 13 rounds of golf that were for par or better.
As a team, Kent State women's golf posted a 3.67 team cumulative GPA, the highest in-season GPA in program history.
