The Golden Flashes offense was quick to attack in Friday night's 3-2 senior night victory over Morehead State. Sophomore Vital Kats scored Kent State's first goal in the 24th minute on a penalty kick. In the 29th minute, junior Yasmine Hall scored her first of two goals on the night from a Kats assist.
The Eagles scored two goals to begin the second period, both coming from Dani Wilson. The Flashes regrouped and Hall came through with the game-winner in the 82nd minute, also on an assist from Kats. Hall (2g) and Kats (1g, 2a) both poured in four point nights.
Kent State led in both shots (21-7) and corner kicks (6-2). Senior Ashleah McDonald (1-0-0) made her first appearance of the season in the net and made one save.
#FlashFacts
Freshman Khyla Porter and junior Yasmine Hall have each recorded two-goal matches this season. It's the second consecutive year a freshman scored twice in the same match, as Cameron Shedenhelm accomplished the feat at St. Bonaventure in 2017.
Senior goalkeeper Ashleah McDonald is now tied atop the program record book with 35 career victories and tied Stephanie Senn (2013-15) against Morehead State.
Both of sophomore Vital Kats' goals this season have come on penalty kicks.
Kent State Picked to win MAC Regular Season and Tournament
The Golden Flashes were selected to win the Mid-American Conference regular season and tournament championship in the preseason coaches' poll. Kent State has been selected to win a regular season championship in three consecutive years after they were named to win the MAC East Division in 2016 and 2017.
Scouting Syracuse
The Orange opened the season by winning two of their first three matches, but since have dropped three of the last four. Syracuse has only scored four goals on the season, with one own-goal. Sophomore Kate Hostage leads the team with six points on three goals. Syracuse has been shut-out three times this season and outscored, 13-5. The Orange were selected to finish 12th in the Atlantic Coast Conference, and are led by 10th-year head coach Phil Wheddon.
Series History
Kent State has never faced Syracuse on the pitch. The Golden Flashes are 3-7-3 all-time against ACC schools, and earlier this year tied Pitt, 1-1, on the road.
