STOCKTON, California β The Kent State University field hockey team (2-6) lost 2-0 in a tough battle with the University of the Pacific (5-3) Friday afternoon in California. The Tigers' two goals in the first half proved to be enough as the Flashes shut out Pacific in the second half.
The Pacific Tigers struck first midway through the first period, as Tayler Silacci tapped it in the net following a diving save by junior goalkeeper Mary Crumlish. In the 25th minute, the Tigers added a second goal by Kriekie van Wyk, her seventh of the season.
In a highly defensive second period, zero goals were scored, and the Flashes held Pacific to just 2 shots. On the day, the Tigers out-shot Kent State 9-5 and recorded 6 penalty corner opportunities.
Offensively for the Flashes, sophomore Clara RodriguezΒ Setó, freshman Helena Cambra Soler, and senior Courtney Weise each took 2 shots, both on goal. In the cage, Crumlish tallied 3 saves.
Up next, the Flashes will wrap up the cross-country trip, facing No. 23 Stanford on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 3:00 p.m. EST/12:00 p.m. PST.
