Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Programs Fall in Akron Dual

AKRON, Ohio – Kent State's men's and women's track and field programs fell to the Zips Friday night at Stile Athletics Field House in the annual Akron-Kent State Dual. The women's team dropped their dual by a score of 79-72, while the men fell in their dual, 78-72. Twelve Flashes grabbed individual victories on the night.
Sophomore Grace Tennant picked up her second consecutive victory in the women's shot put, setting a new career-best mark at 15.12 meters (49'-07.25"). Freshman Gabby Bailey took second with a career-best mark of 14.63 meters (48'-0.00").
Junior Nicole Yeargin finished in first place in the 60-meter dash with a career best time of 7.69, while sophomore Gana Lopez followed with a second-place finish at 7.78. Senior Irene Skinner finished with the top time in the 400-meter with a career-best time of 56.32.
The women's team finished with the top four times in the 200-meter with Yeargin crossing the finish line first with a time of 24.46. Freshman Angelique Wong placed second with a career-best time of 25.22, while junior Mi'angel Daniels came in third (25.41) and Lopez finished fourth (25.62).
Sophomore Alyssa Matheny topped the women's high jump with a mark of 1.74 meters (5'-08.50") while sophomore Sarena Choi won the long jump reaching 5.55 meters (18'-02.50").
From the men's team, senior Brandon Harris finished with the top time (6.93) in the 60-meter dash and finished in second place in the 200-meter (21.80). Freshman Asa Hodrick grabbed the victory in the 200-meter with a time of (21.71).
Junior Clark Bookman highlighted the distance events with a top finish in the 3,000-meter with a time of 8:32.97.
The Flashes finished with the top two marks in the men's triple jump as senior Craig Stevens, Jr. reached 15.50 meters (50'-10.25") and sophomore Anthony Milliner leaped 14.68 meters (48'-02.00").
Junior Walter Petzel picked up a victory and a career-best mark in the men's shot put (17.07 meters, 56'-0.00"), while sophomore Jake Wickey rounded out the field events with a top finish in the men's weight throw (19.42 meters, 63'-08.50").
The Flashes will be back in action at the University of Akron for the second consecutive weekend for the Akron Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1-2.
