Flashes Lead Through 36 at Illini Invite

MEDINAH, Ill. Â The Kent State women's golf team sits at the top of the leaderboard after 36 holes of play at the Illini Invitational on Monday.
The Flashes lead the tournament at 9-under 567 and hold a 3-stroke lead over second-place Louisville. Kent State posted an opening round of 1-under 287, followed by a second-round score of 8-under 280.
Senior Karoline Stormo paced the Flashes in the opening day and sits tied for third at 4-under par 140. Stormo posted an opening round of 1-over 73 after going 15 holes for par or better. Her 5-under 67 score in the second round was the lowest score of the day. Stormo fired six birdies in the afternoon round with only one bogey.
Senior Pimnipa Panthong and junior Chloe Salort are both tied for 10th at 3-under 141. Panthong opened with a 2-under par 70 after she fired a bogey-free round with two birdies. In the second round, Panthong went 17 holes for par or better with two birdies and carded a 1-under 70 score. Salort opened with a 2-under par 70 and fired three birdies, followed by a 1-under second-round score.
Freshman Caley McGinty carded rounds of 75 and 71 and is tied for 27th at 2-over 146. Junior Kory Nielsen rounds out the Flashes' lineup and is tied for 39th at 4-over 148 after rounds of 74.
Sophomore Thitapa Pakdeesettakul who is competing as an individual, is tied for third at 4-under 140. She opened the day at even-par and fired a second-round score of 68.
Kent State will be paired with Louisville and Illinois for the final round. The shotgun start time is set for 9 a.m. CT. Live Scoring is available at golfstat.com.
