KENT, OHIO- Golden Flashes linebacker Matt Bahr and place kicker Matthew Trickett have been named to the Academic All-District team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The Academic All-District team acknowledges a student-athlete's success both on the field and in the classroom. In order to qualify, a student-athlete must be sophomore status or higher and have a cumulative grade-point average of at least a 3.30.
Bahr makes the Academic All-District team for the second-straight season. The linebacker has already earned his undergraduate degree in criminology and is in graduate school for criminal justice. The senior is sixth on the team with 48 tackles with three of them coming for loss. Bahr has had a knack for the big play this season, recovering two fumbles on the year. Bahr's fumble recovery in overtime helped the Golden Flashes win their home opener against Kennesaw State. His two fumble recoveries are second in the Mid-American Conference and tied for 16th in the NCAA.
Trickett makes the Academic All-District team in his first year of eligibility as a sophomore. The accounting major has been one of the steadiest, most consistent place kickers in the NCAA in 2019. After making the Mid-American Conference first team as a freshman, Trickett has already passed his field goal total from 2018, hitting on 17-of-21 so far this season as well as all 23 of his extra points. His 17 field goals lead the MAC and sits sixth in the NCAA, while his 81 percent field goal rate is second in the MAC and top-40 in the country.
Both Bahr and Trickett were named to the All-District first team and have advanced to the Academic All-America ballot. The Academic All-America teams will be announced in early December.
