
Flashes Welcome in Sooners and Spartans for Tri-Meet

KENT, OHIO- Kent State welcomes in #19 Oklahoma and #29 Michigan State on Saturday for a tri-meet starting at noon inside the MAC Center
Saturday's meet will be held in the "triangular" meet format with two mats going simultaneously. There will be three "flights" with an intermission in-between. The full schedule can be found below.
ABOUT THE GOLDEN FLASHES
The Golden Flashes are coming off a strong showing at the Mountaineer Invitational hosted by Appalachian State. Both Andrew McNally and Tyler Bates earned tournament titles at 174 and 184, respectfully.
Bates went 3-0 at 184, winning three-straight decisions to capture the title. McNally went 4-0 in his bracket, and picked up a fall, a major decision and decision wins by six and seven points, respectfully. For his undefeated performance, McNally was named the MAC West Co-Wrestler of the Week.
Kent State also picked up a trio of third-place finishes at last Saturday's invite. Tim Rooney (133), Brady Chrisman (157) and Colin McCracken (197) all earned third-place finishes at their respective weights and went a collective 10-1 on the afternoon.
In the latest MAC wrestling rankings, Rooney has checked in as the number five wrestler at 133, Andrew McNally is ranked third at 174 and Colin McCracken is number six at 197.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
Oklahoma has risen the ranks to #19/#20 in the country in the latest poll. The Sooners will bring several nationally-ranked wrestlers to the gym on Saturday led by the #2 wrestler at 141 in Dom Demas. At 133, Anthony Madrigal is has earned a 12/12/13 ranking across the three polls while Anthony Mantanona checks in at #28 at 174.
The two schools have only met once in the lengthy history of both programs. The Sooners knocked off Kent 18-6 in a dual held at Kent State on February 2, 1939.
Michigan State is ranked #29 entering Saturday's tri-meet. The Spartans will bring a pair of ranked wrestlers into the gym on Saturday. Rayvon Foley is the #6 wrestler at 125 and Cameron Caffey is the #18 wrestler at 184. At 133, Jordan Hamdan won the Michigan State Open in his first collegiate tournament. Hamdan won four state titles in high school.
The Spartans and Golden Flashes are no strangers to one another, this will be the 19th meeting between the schools. Michigan State holds a slight 10-8 edge overall, but Kent State took the last meeting a 18-17 victory in Florida last season as part of the South Beach Duals.
