Flashes Go 2-1 at Kent State Duals

KENT, OHIO- The Golden Flashes kicked off the 2019 wrestling season with a 2-1 performance at the annual Kent State duals. The Golden Flashes topped Ashland 37-6 and Mercyhurst NE 52-0 but fell to Edinboro 29-6 in the lone MAC matchup of the afternoon.
Colin McCracken (197) and Brady Chrisman (157) were the two wrestlers that went a perfect 3-0 on the afternoon. McCracken picked up a decision in the Edinboro dual, a major decision in the Ashland dual and a pin fall against Mercyhurst Northeast.
Chrisman edged our Peter Pappas of Edinboro, 6-5, breaking the tie by earning a riding time bonus. Chrisman left little in doubt against Ashland, earning a technical fall, then earning his first pin fall of the year against Mercyhurst.
The Flashes took a tough setback against the Fighting Scots from Edinboro in the first dual with four of the matches coming down to just two points in the final decision. The squad took out their frustration on Ashland and Mercyhurst, recording two pin falls against Ashland (Byland and Berthold) and six pin falls against Mercyhurst NE, including the last four matches of the day.
The Flashes have a quick turnaround as several members of the team will be in action tomorrow as part of the Clarion Open. The team is next in action next weekend when the compete in the Mountaineer Invitational hosted by Appalachian State.
