Four Golden Flashes Earn All-MAC, All-District Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Three Golden Flashes were recognized on Mid-American Conference postseason award teams, the league office announced Thursday afternoon. In addition, two Flashes were named to the CoSIDA All-District Team.
Vital Kats earned her second-straight First Team appearance, while Cameron Shedenhelm was named to the Second Team and Grace Wolber made the Freshman Team. Amanda Reed was named to the CoSIDA All-District First Team, while Kats earned a CoSIDA Second Team All-District honor.
Kats earned her second consecutive First Team honor, leading the Flashes the MAC with 24 points (8g, 8a). She led the MAC with 91 shots – 20 more than any other player in the conference – and shots on goal (47). She ranked fifth in the league in goals and her eight assists were tied for second-most by in the MAC. The Toronto native posted a season-high five points against Toledo on Oct. 6, scoring two goals and recording an assist. The junior posts a 3.88 GPA in Business Management.
Reed was a leader on the back end for Kent State. The defender posts a perfect 4.0 GPA in Biology and played the third-most minutes this season for the Flashes. She started all 18 games and averaged 89 minutes per game and helped the squad to five shutouts this season.
Shedenhelm was second on the team with 18 points (6g, 6a) this season. Her 4.0 shots per game ranked second in the MAC behind only Kats. She averaged 1.94 shots on goal per game, which ranked third in the conference. She tied for eighth in the MAC in both goals and assists and ranked sixth in the league in points.
Wolber averaged 70 minutes per game, the most by any Kent State freshman this season. She appeared in all 18 games for the Flashes and started 14 games and tallied her first career points with a goal against Youngstown State. The Cincinnati, Ohio native notched her first career assist against Ball State.
In an injury-filled season, Kent State finished 6-9-3 (4-5-2) and narrowly missed out on the MAC postseason tournament for the first time since 2010.
