KENT, Ohio – Kent State put together one of its most complete games of the season and defeated Miami, 67-58, inside of the M.A.C. Center on Wednesday evening. The RedHawks entered having won 11 consecutive games and in sole possession of first-place in the Mid-American Conference standings.
The Golden Flashes (16-10, 9-6 MAC) held their guest to its second-lowest scoring game of the season. Senior Alexa Golden led the stellar defensive performance with a career-high eight steals. Kent State forced 18 turnovers overall, and converted them into 21 points.
"That's a really good team we just beat," said head coach Todd Starkey. "This is about the first time all season that we have played four really solid quarters. Defensively, I thought we were fantastic all four quarters. We did a really good job of executing on the offensive end and getting the ball where we wanted to."
The trio of freshmen Asiah Dingle and Lindsey Thall and redshirt junior Megan Carter combined for 51 points on 18-for-32 (56.3-percent) shooting. Dingle poured in a game-high 19 points, while Thall and Carter scored 16 apiece.
Senior Merissa Barber-Smith was stellar on the glass once again and totaled 11 rebounds for the second game in a row.
Kent State is next scheduled for its final two road games of the regular season, beginning with a trip to Bowling Green on Saturday, March 2.
