CLEVELAND, Ohio — Kent State led the way with four different student-athletes earning recognition, as the Mid-American Conference announced its 2019 women's basketball postseason awards on Tuesday (March 12) morning. Redshirt junior Megan Carter was named All-MAC Third Team, senior Alexa Golden earned a spot on the MAC All-Defensive Team, while Asiah Dingle and Lindsey Thall were placed on the MAC All-Freshman Team.
The quartet helped the Golden Flashes to an 11-7 league record and No. 5 seed in the conference tournament. Kent State advanced to the MAC Tournament quarterfinals for the third year in a row with a dominant 86-62 victory against Bowling Green on Monday and will attempt to post the program's first 20-win campaign since 2010-11 when it takes on No. 4 seed Buffalo on Wednesday.
Carter ranked ninth in the MAC with a scoring average of 16.1 points per game and provided consistent offense for the Flashes throughout the season, hitting double-figures in 25 of 29 regular season contests. Carter also posted career-high averages in rebounds (4.2 rpg) and assists (2.2 apg).
Tasked with guarding the opposition's top perimeter player each night, Golden was the leader of a Kent State squad that led the MAC in field goal percentage defense (.375) and ranked third in scoring defense (61.3 ppg) and turnovers forced (18.3). She was fourth in the conference with 2.8 steals per game overall and was the league leader with 3.2 steals per game during the MAC season.
Kent State is represented on the All-Freshman Team for the first time since 2008. This is the third time the Flashes have received multiple spots on the team, and first since 1995 when Gwen Hurley and Carrie Templin earned the recognition.
Dingle averaged 12.7 points per game, which was third among freshmen in the conference. She recorded 2.0 steals per game, which led all freshmen and ranked eighth overall. The point guard shot a team-best 77.4-percent at the free throw line and was second on the team in assists (2.5 apg).
Thall led the MAC with an average of 1.9 blocks per game. She shot better than 40-percent from behind the three-point line and is one of only three players in the nation with at least 50 three-pointers and 50 blocked shots. Thall averaged 10.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.
