Flashes Host Dayton to Start Four-Game Homestand

KENT, Ohio โ The Kent State University baseball team (21-20, 9-7 MAC) will start a four-game homestand by hosting Dayton (24-20-1, 12-6 A-10) at Schoonover Stadium on Tuesday, April 30 at 6 p.m. The Flashes stumbled on the road in the last meeting with the Flyers in late March, falling 12-5.
Kent State is coming off its fourth straight Mid-American Conference series victory at Ohio University. The Flashes remain in fourth place in the conference standings with a 9-7 record, coming in behind Ball State, Central Michigan and Miami in order.
Redshirt sophomore Ben Carew continues to be a consistent threat at the top of the Kent State lineup and was instrumental in three wins last week. Through the four games played April 24-28, the Appleton, Wis. native posted a .471 average, .941 slugging percentage and .500 on-base percentage, knocking eight hits with two home runs and two doubles.ย He led the offense with seven runs scored and six RBIs.ย
Carew is currently on a seven-game hitting streak dating back to April 19, and has reached base in each of the last 22 games. On the season, he ranks second in the MAC in batting average (.396) and hits (65), fifth in on-base percentage (.463), and third in both runs scored (42) and stolen bases (19).
Dayton
Dayton will come into Tuesday's matchup 24-20-1, standing in second in the Atlantic 10 Conference standings with a 12-6 record. VCU currently leads the conference with a 13-5 record.
Most recently, the Flyers earned a conference series win at home against Saint Joseph's.ย
Since the Flyers and the Flashes last met, Dayton has spun three shut outs, two at St. Bonaventure and one against UMass.
On the season, the Dayton offense has notched at least 10 hits in 17 games, posting a .255 team batting average. The Flyer offense has collected 112 extra-base hits, including 74 doubles and 28 home runs.ย
Dayton batters have drawn over 300 free bases this season, taking 221 walks and getting plunked 88 times. The Flyers have caused havoc on the base paths, swiping 94 bases out of 116 attempts on the year.
Tuesday will conclude the home-and-home series between the two programs, marking the 32ndย time the teams will meet. The Flashes lead the all-time series 22-9.
