
Yeargin Claims 200m Title to Close MAC Outdoor Championships

MUNCIE, Ind. – Junior Nicole Yeargin won the 200-meter dash title and recorded a personal-best time in the 100-meter dash to lead the Kent State women's track and field team as the 2019 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships concluded on Saturday.
The Golden Flashes scored the second-most points (51) on the day, totaling 75.5 and finishing fourth.
Yeargin accounted for 16.25 points on the day, which was highlighted by a narrow victory in the 200-meter dash. The junior clocked a time of 23.52 seconds to capture her first outdoor conference crown by .01 seconds. Earlier in the day, Yeargin ran a PR of 11.67 (not wind-legal) to place fourth in the 100-meter dash. She also was a member of the 4x100 relay team along with Mi'Angel Daniels, Gana Lopez and Angelique Wong that finished fourth with a time of 46.06 that is the sixth-fastest in Kent State history.
Led by a PR from Gabby Bailey, the Flashes scored 12 points in the discus throw. Bailey unleashed a toss of 178'-1", which is sixth in the program record book, to take second-place. The Portmore, Jamaica native was selected as the Women's Field Freshman of the Year following the meet. She placed third in the shot put on Friday and totaled 14 points.
Grace Tennant placed fifth in the discus throw with a top mark of 164'-0" to score in her third event of the weekend.
Rachel Banks earned All-MAC honors in the 800-meter run with a runner-up finish for the second year in a row. Banks crossed the finish line in 2:04.04.
Mi'Angel Daniels ran a 14.19 to finish eighth in the 100-meter hurdles.
Kent State continues postseason competition when qualifying Golden Flashes travel to compete at the NCAA East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Florida on May 23-25.
